Every football player knows that there's more to the game than just offense. If you want to win, you have to have good defense. That's why teams spend so much time watching films of their opponents' games. They want to win, and that means making plans to deal with situations that may be difficult for them in the future.
They look at the difficult situation and ask themselves, "What will I do if I face this?"
Then they practice.
They practice their response over and over.
They practice, so that when they face the situation for real, they'll automatically know what to do.
This same strategy can help us in our daily struggles, whatever they are...habits, uncomfortable situations, addictions...
Think of the situation you want to avoid, and ask yourself, "What will I do if I face this?"
Come up with a plan and practice.
Practice the conversation you might have.
Practice walking away.
Practice replacing something negative with something positive.
Practice helps strengthen your defense. Then when you face that tough situation, your body will already be conditioned to avoid it. You'll be ready. You'll be strong. You'll be more likely to succeed.
